WINTER 2026/27 ONLINE LECTURE SERIES

This winter, the Chapels Society will be running a series of free lectures on Zoom. They will be stimulating and accessible introductions to four of the quieter, simpler, and perhaps lesser-known branches of Nonconformity. Each presentation will discuss and illustrate some representative chapels/meeting houses from a particular religious group and explain the underlying theology and history shaping the buildings and their use. The presentations, each by an expert on the respective movement, will last for about 40 minutes, with a further 20 minutes or so for questions and discussion.

The first four lectures will take place at 5.00pm (GMT) on the first Saturday of each month from December 2026 to March 2027 inclusive:

5 December 2026: Tim Grass on the Brethren
2 January 2027: Chris Skidmore on the Quakers
6 February 2027: Matt Davis on the Jehovah’s Witnesses
6 March 2027: Peter Ackers on the Churches of Christ

Attendance is free of charge, but we ask you to book a (free) ticket on Eventbrite: this will allow us to monitor numbers of attendees. The link to the Eventbrite booking page will be added here as soon as it is live, and the Zoom link will be provided when you book the ticket. It will be possible to attend using Zoom directly in your browser, without having to download the software.
