Two Centuries of Baptists in Guernsey

The Story of an Island Community

Tim Grass. Foreword by Herbert Winterflood

In this book Tim Grass recounts the history of Baptist witness in Guernsey from their arrival in the island up to the present day.  The story has never previously been told, and there are some surprises along the way, but it shows how one Christian denomination was able to put down deep roots in the local context and to flourish as a result.

GuernseyTwo Centuries of Baptists in Guernsey draws on a wide range of source material, including minute books, preaching plans, and personal recollections.  About forty illustrations help to bring the story to life.

This account will be of interest to local and denominational historians, church members, and all who have had links with any of the island’s Baptist churches.

Tim Grass is an associate tutor at Spurgeon’s College, London, and has published books and articles on many aspects of modern British Nonconformist history.  He has a doctorate in theology from King’s College, London, and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.  His home is on the Isle of Man.
